Lafayette tops grant list

U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany Jr., R-Lafayette, announced Tuesday that the Lafayette, St. Landry and Vermilion Parish sheriff’s offices and the Sulphur Police Department were receiving grants.

Rick Curtsinger, Boustany’s Press

secretary, said the grants were a part of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which targets state and local needs.

“The focus is on about seven different areas where local governments and law enforcement agencies are trying to improve their crime prevention or crime control needs,” Curtsinger said.

Lafayette Parish received the most of the four agencies with $178,504, followed by Vermilion Parish with $33,696. St. Landry Parish received $15,558 and Sulphur police received $16,306.
