Lafayette, LA – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today announced FEMA grants totaling more than $31 million for hurricane recovery in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes. The grants to various entities will be used to fund recovery from hurricanes Rita and Ike.
“Southwest Louisiana continues to overcome the damage done by hurricanes, and these grants will help communities in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes to rebuild,” said Boustany. “Hurricane season reminds us of the power and destruction these storms bring. But, the people of Southwest Louisiana remain committed to preserving our way of life.”
$16,153,106.40 – CAMERON SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE
This PW provides for the costs of replacement of the Johnson Bayou K-12 School located in Cameron Parish damaged in excess of 50% of the replacement costs by Hurricane Ike. As this structure is located in a Coastal High Hazard Area (V-Zone), the design is in compliance with FEMA’s Memorandum dated June 02, 2009.
$1,093,673.03 - CAMERON SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE
Hurricane Ike storm surge inundated the main building at Hackberry K-12 School. The building is a one story 52,000 SF concrete block with brick veneer building built in 1951 on an at grade concrete slab. The flooding, salt water intrusion, standing water in the school for a week, vegetative debris, mud and silt damaged the floors, walls, furniture and equipment, electrical and mechanical elements in and outside the building. This project worksheet addresses charges for the installation of VCT tile, doors and frames, casework, auditorium seats, walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer. Hurricane Ike storm surge inundated the main building at Hackberry K-12 School.

This PW was prepared to reimburse Cameron Parish for costs of repairing Three Dredged Material Placement Areas in Placement Area #5 located in Cameron Parish, LA, which was damaged by storm surges of 14’+/- from Hurricane Ike.

This PW was prepared for the costs of replacement of the Muria Fire Station Facility located on 125 Muria Road, Creole, LA. This pre-engineered building had flood waters approximately five (5) FT above the floor.

On September 12-13, 2008, storm surge from Hurricane Ike caused extensive flood damage to the Cameron Parish pre-engineered metal Multi-Purpose Building.
$1,775,600.00 - City of Westlake (Debris Removal)
On September 23, 2005, Hurricane Rita caused high winds and severe damage to trees, roofs, residential and commercial property citywide in the City of Westlake.
$1,000,727.58 - CAMERON PARISH SCHOOL BOARD – HACKBERRY K-12 SCHOOL ANNOUCER BUILDING AND BLEACHER CANOPY REPLACEMENT
On August. 29, 2005, wind driven rain and flooding from Hurricane Katrina caused damage to the Hackberry K-12 School.
