Press Release -
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today announced two grants totaling more than $3.8 million for coastal restoration projects in Cameron Parish.
“Coastal restoration remains a top priority to protect our way of life in Southwest Louisiana, and these grants remind us of the interaction between oil and gas production and our coast,” said Boustany. “These grants come directly from offshore energy revenue and will help to restore and rebuild important areas in Cameron Parish.”
Boustany announced a $3,217,773.53 Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) grant to restore flow and reestablish historic hydrologic regimes to approximately 10,000 acres of marsh for the North Mermentau Restoration Project. A second CIAP grant of $662,374.55 will be used to restore flow into Little Pecan Bayou and reestablish historic hydrologic regimes to the Little Pecan Bayou system, which affects approximately 1,500 acres of marsh. Implementation of the project is expected to reduce salinity in this historically fresh and intermediate marsh.
