Boustany Announces $244,064 in Grants for Law Enforcement Agencies in Southwest Louisiana

Lafayette, LA – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), today announced more than $240,000 in law enforcement grants to help local agencies purchase equipment and upgrade communication capabilities.
“Each and every day, law enforcement officers across our region help keep our communities safe, and these grants support their efforts,” Boustany said.  “In the aftermaths of the hurricanes that battered Southwest Louisiana, sheriffs and police officers were among the first to be called upon to respond.  As we remember the anniversary of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, we also must remember the difficult tasks facing our police and first responders.”
Boustany announced Department of Justice grants for four local law enforcement departments.  The grants are part of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime.  The grant awardees included:
Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department - $178,504
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department - $15,558
Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department - $33,696
Sulphur Police Department - $16,306
